FiberFix Emergency Spoke Replacement Kit

The FiberFix Emergency Spoke Repair Kit

We just got these in at the Bike Touring News Store.
The FiberFix replacement spoke is an aramid cord with a metal “cam” attached. When a spoke breaks the wheel will have a wobble which will probably rub on the bike frame and or the brake pads. If not repaired right away, other spokes may start to go as well. For the mechanically challenged, when a spoke breaks the FIberFix spoke replacement is a good alternative to removing wheels, tires and possibly cassettes. Just thread the included attachment piece into the remaining spoke nipple on the rim, thread the cord down to the hub and back up to the piece threaded into the nipple and tighten.

Here are some reviews at crazyguyonabike.
Might want to bring two!

    Hi,

I’ve read about these fiber spokes on a few websites already. Can you tell me, how easy is it to replace a drive side rear spoke with one of these without removing the cassette? That’s one of their supposed advantages, but I haven’t seen any videos where someone demonstrates this. The demo videos mostly show a front where where access to the holes in the hub is very easy. I guess question is really just how easy is it to thread through the hub’s spoke hole on the drive side without removing the cassette? Thanks.

Exactly right Simon. The pie plate between the biggest cog and the spokes which is standard on may new bikes nowadays makes threading the fiber spoke a little trickier.
